CONSTRUCTION
Begin construction by cutting
out all the parts as specified in the materials list.
NOTICE:
There is no need to miter the
roof (E, F), But the sides are mitered to 45 degrees.
Use a compass to draw the
three 4" diameter holes on the front (A). Then drill starter holes and cut
out the waste area using a jig saw or scroll saw.
Next drill the 1/4" diameter
by 1/2" deep holes in which you will insert the perch rod (G).
Locate these holes to suit.
Now assemble the project using
#8 x 1 1/4" brass flathead screws ( countersunk). Begin by attaching the
bottom/divider (D) to the sides (C) and back (B) with wood screws. Then
attach the front (A) and the roof (E, F).
Finally insert the perch rods
(G) to complete the basic unit.
FINISHING
Thoroughly sand all of the
parts, smoothing all of the sharp edges.
A finish is not necessary due
to redwood is naturally weather resistant. However, if desired, you can
apply a clear oil stain or several coats of an exterior grade varnish.
Complete the project by
installing an eye hook in the top of the roof and inserting your choice of
bird feed in the holes.
Now all that's left is to hang
the feeder where desired and watch you fine feathered friends as they have a
treat.
